Casting to the Future (CTTF)

Youth fly fishing program
spring session scheduled
The Merrymeeting Bay
Chapter of Trout Unlimited is presenting a comprehensive fly fishing program
for youth ages 11-17. “Casting to the Future,” or CTTF, includes
two days of instruction at the Bath YMCA: May 5 & 12, Saturday mornings,
9AM-Noon followed by fishing on Saturday, May 19, from 9AM-Noon at the Durham
Rod & Gun Club.
The fee for the program
is $25. No experience is necessary. All gear is provided.

An optional Columbus
Day weekend trip to Grand Lake Stream fishing for landlocked salmon is offered
to the first 12 participants to sign up. The YMCA provides transportation
and supervision of the youth, while MMBTU provides equipment, supplies, instructors,
and food. Lodging is provided by MMBTU and Canalside Cabins at Grand Lake
Stream.
CTTF instructors include
experienced fly fishermen and educators who volunteer their time to participate
in this youth education program. Students receive instruction in casting,
tying knots, basic ecology, fly selection, insect life and identification,
wading safety, and proper catch and release technique.
MMBTU is the mid-coast
area chapter of Trout Unlimited, dedicated to conserving, protecting and
restoring North America’s coldwater fisheries. Funding for CTTF comes
from local contributors and funds raised at MMBTU’s annual springtime
